Fun but frustrating July 25, 2010 booky (UK) This is the first Monster Hunter game I have played. There is an initial 'wow' factor as this is certainly a leap forward for the Wii console in terms of solo/online games, the graphics look fantastic and the classic controller works well with the game.
The first 20 hours of gameplay are just to get you used to the game and the controls. Yep, 20 HOURS and you are hardly scratching the surface. There are three types of gameplay; Offline, Online and Arena.
Offline - You are on your own gathering resources and hunting monsters. You will slowly built up the village where you are based, and eventually will have a farm and a fleet of ships to gather resources (which makes your life a bit easier). You can choose to 'free hunt' or take on specific quests.
Online - Basically the same as Offline only this time you can have up to 4 players. Unfortunately the Online side of the game has been very poorly implemented. You Enter a City and then choose a Gate and then go to a Tavern area. You are limited to 4 players in each Tavern, and some missions require 4 players to complete them, so if you get someone who wants to go off and do something completely different to the other 3 players there is not much you can do but either leave and go an try and find another group, or wait until the player leaves.
Without actualy playing the game it is hard to describe why this works so poorly. The other issue with Online is that it does not scale. All Capcom did was make the monsters harder because they assumed 4 players would be online. So the monster attack and hit points do not scale up for 2 or 3 players.
Areana - You pick from a set of pre generated characters to play, and online you can have 2 players in the Arena in both online and offline modes.
Ultimately you will need to invest A LOT of time in this game. I'm talking hundreds of hours. You will spend a lot of this farming resources, killing the same monsters over and over again to get the rare drop item to complete the armour or upgrade your weapon. And nothing, absolutely NOTHING is explained in the game, so you will NEED to keep accessing the online Wiki or game forums to find out where to mine for certain rare materials, what creature is weak to which weapons etc etc.
If you are a casual gamer (nothing wrong with that, we all have busy lives) and cannot invest hundreds of hours in to this game them I would suggest that it is not the right game for you.
Game & controller in a box July 11, 2010 Denni Elizabeth This is simply a copy of the standard Monster Hunter Tri game, boxed with theClassic controller Pro.
The game's ok, the controller is very nice.
Unless you know that Monster Hunter is really your sort of game, I'd say just get the controller separately.
Monster Hunter Tri June 25, 2010 Ms. S. L. Coyle (Dublin, Ireland) I bought this for my partner for fathers day because he begged me to, he didn't stopped talking about it for months before it was actually released. I haven't actually played it myself but he absolutely loves it and demanded I give it 5 stars. He says its 'epic'. He played it for 8 hours straight the first time, only stopping because it was the early hours of the morning!
A must I think for game lovers of this type, but not so great if you want to have a conversation with your other half or the person engrossed in it for at least a few weeks!

I bought this under the impression you could play story mode on split-screen - sadly it was not to be. Controller is good though.
Best Wii [Gamer] Title!? June 7, 2010 J. Crichlow 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think that this could be one of the best Wii games released so far [as far as gamers are concerned] its got a great mix of graphics showing the true power of what can be done with a lesser dedicated console card, and gameplay that leaves you wanting more.
The game truely comes into its own with the online aspect allowing people to visit[create] cities on the fly. These serve as lobbies and launching points for quests, research, events, coliseum and general social interaction. With exclusive on event and monster that simply would be imposible solo.... But here is also the downside of the game for anyone not having there wii connected to the net. Because of the Weapon and Armor [mainly weapons] Development trees most weapons in the higher grades[5+] are only accessible if you are able to play online to gather tyhe materials that you need to make them, because of this although i feel the game is amazing i would hasitate to reccommend it to purely offline gamers.
One other matter is that as the designers have stated this is a game ment for fun stretches of gameplay. SO please make use you got a classic controller or this combination package. the wii remote and nuchuk arent designed to be played for hours on end in this type of game lol.
AMAZING GAME
