Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
Start a new life on your DS with the most unlikely source of online addiction you’ve ever experienced. You’ve complete freedom to customise your home and the town around it as you socialise with the locals and your friends alike.

The lowdown:
The world of Animal Crossing seems a peculiarly simple one at first: there are no levels to be beaten or bad guys to overcome, just a cheerful little village to maintain, as you water flowers, catch fish and dig for fossils. But before you know it the game has its hooks in you, as you meet friends via the Wi-Fi Network Connection to chat and compete or start playing the turnip stock market. With over 600 different pieces of furniture to collect the game has a near infinite lifetime and by running in real-time with special events all through the year you’ll find yourself checking in daily with what’s going on around town.

Most exciting moment:
Winning a fishing competition against three friends and rubbing their noses in it via the online chat.

Since you ask:
The first Animal Crossing game was actually released on the N64 in Japan – the GameCube version was a slightly enhanced version of this.

The bottom line:
Live the life idyllic on your DS with the best use of the Wi-Fi Network Connection yet.
HARRISON DENT

3 out of 5 stars Engaginf, but not till death!   August 22, 2010
MidnightSummer
Yes the game was great when I first bought it, but then as the time-frame of the game is synchronized with real life, I found it quite boring, as I had to wait and wait!!! the dialogues are not great, its a nice game for somebody who wants to kill some time and doodle around with the stilus!
Graphics are fine and the settings are really pretty, but you are stuck in the same village and scenery if none of your friends play the game and if you cant connect to the internet pronto!

4 out of 5 stars Something to Kill Time With.   August 17, 2010
I bought this game a couple of years ago (I'm 13 now), and I've got to say I was instantly addicted. It was fun for a while; there's so many things to do, from buying and designing your own clothes to going fishing. But the bad thing is that there's not really an end to this game; it might be fun at first but then you get bored because you just keep doing the same things over and over. I stopped playing for a year because of this but now I've picked it up again because I started to miss it. I'm only playing it because I'm bored as well, it's a good way to kill time, especially when it's raining and you're stuck indoors.

There are also a few glitches, such as I had to take the game in and out of the DS card slot before the console picked it up. The neighbours in town can sometimes be unkind, rude and selfish as well, but it's fun to make them angry such as poking them with your shovel or hitting them on the head with your bug catching net. Childish, I know. but that's how I get my kicks. I also don't understand why the age rating for this game is so low; there's some things which younger children won't understand, such as some words that are used in the game and the concept of paying off the mortgage on your house.

My advice: Don't overplay this game, and don't buy it for children under the age of 10.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Game, I would recommend it!   August 13, 2010
royyyy
This game is great! You start off creating your little human. Then you get in a taxi on your way to the town. The taxi driver asks you questions all the way, and you can choose answers. Once you get to your town, you name it. You work for Tom Nook. Instead of giving you Bells, he builds your house. It is very small at first, but as you progress through the game, you pay off your loan from Tom Nook to get a bigger house.

There are different animals in your town, from dogs to koala bears. They all have different personalities, ranging from vain to slightly aggressive, but they warm to you eventually. These neighbours can move out and you will get new neighbours. You can send letters to these animals and you can attach gifts to the letters. This helps if you want something in their house; they may discard it in order to put it in your room.

There are different festive days in your towns calendar, like Firework Night. There are also competions like the Bug Off. You get a trophy if you win.

You can donate fish, insects and fossils to the museum, or sell them to Tom Nook if you need the money. In Tom Nook's shop you can buy furniture, flowers, equitment and wallpaper/carpets.

You can connect with a friend and go into their town, or they come into yours. Each town has a main fruit, which sells to Tom Nook for 100 Bells. When you connect, you can collect their main fruit, and plant it in your town, which sells to Tom Nook for 500 Bells.

In other reviews, some people have said about the mole, but he only appears when you don't save the game.

This game is utterly AMAZING. If you play it for too long it can get a bit boring, but if you come back to it it is really fun again! I LOVE this game!

4 out of 5 stars So much fun!   July 10, 2010
Animal crossing is so much fun. You get to make upto 4 people in your town and you can name your people and town whatever you like! The neighbours are all different types of animals and you usually pick your favourite after a while (I base mine on the cuteness of the animal), I love planting fruit trees and trying to get all the different types of fruits there are in AC by going to other peoples town. Then once you pay your morgage from selling your fruit your house expands and then you get to decorate it with new furniture. My favourite thing is though collecting all the stuff like insects and pictures for the museum! :)
