this game should be crap September 1, 2010 S. Farmer (London, England) Terminator Salvation is a bit of an odd game because it should be crap.
the action is just ok with a cover system much the same as gears of war
the graphics are last gen the story is boreing the and acting/voice over's are really poor but all that said and done i actually had fun playing it.
iv completed it twice and enjoyed it both times.
go figure lol
if you like 3ps and the terminator franchise buy it youl have fun
Short But Sweet March 31, 2010 Nick Ok this game is set two years before the film Terminator Salvation and the game follows John Connor regaining his faith in humanities survival against the machines.
Story wise, it fits really well into plots of the films but it is a short story at that. Most of it is travelling from place to place but the main combat areas are pretty good. Character voice overs are alright, not great but they do fine. Music is alright to with its Terminator themed tunes but there not the best you'll ever hear.
Graphics like so many games on PC today are excellent, no faults there. Gameplay however takes a little bit of time to get used to but once you've mastered it you'll be fine. Weapons and enemies are a bit limited in this game with there being 3 main enemies with some bigger ones thrown in here and there. Weapons have to be aimed specifically to be effective but if you enjoy long battles and shooting endlessly you'll be very happy. The feature of being able to get under cover and move about in cover is pretty good.
So all in all an alright game. Despite this i've given it 4 stars because it's a game you can play over and over again and still enjoy it plus it's a Terminator game and how many games can you blow machines like those up...apart from other games in the Terminator series. Honestly though, it's a game worth having for a bit of fun action but not essential in collections.
Far too short. August 21, 2009 Mr. Adrian Lawler (Ireland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I always wanted to fight in the terminator world ever since I saw the first movie, now I got my chance.
The good stuff is that the Terminator dystopian world of post nuclear L.A is very nicely created, and the baddies very effectively drawn, with the game set on Hard (I never play at lower levels), they provide a good fight. I also liked the NPC characters of Blair Williams, Angie Salter and Barnes, they work very well with you and don't need babysitting to prevent them being shot to pieces. This is critical as it allows you to work WITH them to create effective crossfire positions, if the enemy fixates on your character you stay in cover and they will destroy it, if it turns on them, you take it down.
Even on Hard though it's far too easy, after every checkpoint your character has his health restored to full - not very realistic. I didn't like the checkpoint auto-save system either, I would much prefer they ramp up the difficulty level to "Meatgrinder" and allow manual quick-save options. Although I didn't like it at first I found the idea of being able to dive from cover position to cover position effective, though the character ought to be able to jump over certain objects and crouch also - not having these options was fustrating at first and limited the directions you can take, this ended up with me dying a lot at first.
Overall I liked finally being able to go head to head with the Terminators, The T-600 Walkers and Skin Jobs were nicely done and the T-7-T Spiders tricky, I even enjoyed the Gun Rides, sadly there's just not enough of it. You'll get a day out of it, maybe two at most but no more, and that's the reason for the mark down.

Termination of a genre. June 19, 2009 S. Knight (North Kent, United Kingdom) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This genre could do with some more ideas. Yes, the game is pretty, good graphics on a high spec'ed machine, destructable scenery, nice explosions. Finished it in about 4.5 hours. Vary little variance on the enemies, difficult to connect to the characters (bad voice acting), too many cut scenes - some of which break up the gameplay. 3rd person view going to 1st person on aim, so it looks like a console port. Frustration at times being blocked by a small step, not be able to jump over. Can't sprint, forced at times to walk while other NPC's talk.
I've probabaly over egged the bad side of the game, had it come out a couple of years ago I would have probably spoken better of it, but there are just too many games around like it now. BTW, I didn't get any installation problems (downloaded from Steam).
I wish I had saved my money for something better - its just too short, and unlikely to be replayed.
